Every visit to the historic Viscaya Museum and Gardens in Miami is always an experience to cherish, but an exclusive members-only tour taking place this Saturday allows a lucky few to tour the hidden side of the lush surroundings with a stroll through the moat. This is the first time this area has been accessible to the public.
From Viscaya’s event website:
Roll up your sleeves and discover a hidden side of Vizcaya on this special access tour. Follow Lost Spaces artist Duane Brant and Vizcaya horticulture expert Jeffrey Summers on a guided trek through Vizcaya’s moat, located underneath the ticket booth and driveway.
The tour will explore the history of the space as well as the fauna that has developed within over the past 100 years. It will also feature insights on the contemporary art installation currently featured in the moat provided by the artist himself.
The tour begins promptly 10:15am but you’ll want to get there early to check-in starting at 9:45am with coffee and donuts waiting for participants. Children must be at least 10-years-old and accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The site points out that the trek through this environment requires crossing some “rocky terrain and natural forest terrain” and is not recommended for individuals with health or mobility issues. You’ll need to sign a waiver form and be required to wear closed-toe shoes.
