Review: Gaylord Palms Resort offers frights, laughs and family fun during Goblins & Giggles Getaway Weekends

We love celebrating Halloween every year as a family and this time around we got an early start in a really fun way at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, FL with their Goblins & Giggles Getaway Weekends that is chock full of special events and activities that will delight everyone!

The hotel itself is a splendid place to relax and kick back with several restaurants, bars, spa, water park and pools (and it’s also conveniently located right next to Walt Disney World) but on weekends leading up to Halloween it’s transformed into some wickedly fun with a ton of stuff to do!

As soon as we checked in, the girls headed out to the Create-Your-Own Treat-Ments at Relache Spa where they made their own special potions. They each created a fall-scented Supernatural Scrub and Pumpkin Spice Bath Fizz, and there’s also a Bone Chilling Balm (made with soothing coconut) and Wicked Witch Clay Mask to choose from.

It was a nice way for them to sit back and learn a few tricks from the ladies at the spa while us boys made a beeline to the pool to check out the Wicked Awesome Pool Party that was being hosted by Vladimir the vampire, in which ghoulish tunes were playing as he led the kids through some poolside games.

It was initially difficult to pull the kids away hours later from the massive Cypress Springs Water Park but the promise of trick-or-treating around the hotel was a pretty good way to convince them! It was nice way to check out everything Gaylord Palms has to offer and also to see the many Halloween decorations placed all around while stopping at various spots for candy.

Once we loaded up on treats, we joined Vladimir the vampire and Morgana the witch for the Monster Mash Bash. All the kids were dressed up in their finest for a costume contest that also took place there and let me tell you, there were some impressive entries! The show itself was great fun, as the two led the children in dancing and singing as well as a fun show featuring a hilarious skeleton named Joan Shivers that made plenty of hilarious quips and observations throughout the festivities. There was even punch served as well as brownies, cookies and more Halloween treats.

The rainy weather wouldn’t cooperate with the planned Poolside Moonlight Movie showing outside but it was a perfect setting for the highlight of the entire weekend, The Swamp Witch Escape Ghost Tour that took place at night. (Most of the events are indoors, so hardly anything else was affected by the weather — quite different than other Halloween events in the area.)

Our tour guide took us through a few stops around the hotel telling us a ghost story that took place in Florida about a swamp witch. Little did we know that it soon became a race against time inside an escape room where we came face to face with Bessie the witch as the entire group worked together to solve several clues that would help us escape her clutches! The kids absolutely LOVED the tour and we were all blown away by how interactive and immersive it was. Even I got spooked a bit here and there and it really was the perfect way to end a fun-filled day.

There’s also another ghost tour at Gaylord Palms called Florida’s Haunted History Ghost Tour that we highly recommend that takes place throughout the hotel’s atrium as your guide tells you several eerie ghost stories that are set in some of the most haunted places in Florida.

We started off the next day with some Halloween haunted house decorating after breakfast. We may not have been the best at decorating the kit provided but the icing and candy were fun to eat as we attempted our best to make some chocolatey structures. We had lots of laughs as the icing did its best trying to hold the little houses together but we eventually finished the task at hand and no matter what they looked good enough to eat!

The kids were beyond ready to hit the pool once we were done, where Vladimir was once again out in the sun (hope that doesn’t cause any permanent damage to his skin!) and leading the kids through more activities.

Also offered is a neat scavenger hunt featuring Spookley the Square Pumpkin called the Halloween Hide & Seek. Follow the clues provided in the booklets available to purchase near the hotel lobby and see if you can find Spookley in eight hiding spots throughout the atrium for a special prize.

Fridays also feature the Wicked Waves Surf Show where Gaylord’s Flowrider team show off their skills by the pool at the Wake Zone as well as Storytime with Morgana in addition to many of the events that we participated in on Saturday. Adults can also partake in Spirited Specials located around the hotel, such as the Goblin Colada at the SandBar and the Bloody Mary Brunch Bar at the Villa De Flora.

The entire weekend was super fun and the entire staff at Gaylord Palms went above and beyond to entertain us at all the events. Though the ghost tour was our favorite activity, each one was very special and there was much to do that our time just flew by. It truly was a fantastic way to kick off our favorite time of the year!
