Disney Parks has revealed Batuu will be the name of the brand new Star Wars planet to be featured at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. Not only that, but Walt Disney World guests can already experience Batuu as the newest destination at the Star Tours attraction.
The official Disney Parks Blog has more information on this mysterious planet located in the outer rim of the Star Wars galaxy (much like Tatooine):
This remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel. Now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, it has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order. While Batuu may be new to us, it is clearly already familiar to many characters from the Star Wars saga as a stepping off point for epic adventures.
Starting today, Star Tours riders will see much more of Batuu, as well as a new adventure based on the upcoming The Last Jedi movie at the “dusty mineral world” of Crait. Additionally, Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron join the likes of C-3PO, R2-D2, Princess Leia and Boba Fett as Star Wars characters that will be featured at the popular ride. Guests are encouraged to keep a look out for other characters from “The Last Jedi”.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open in 2019 at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
